Our Story
Chef Vatche Moukhtarian has been cooking with intention since he was twelve — and since 2006, that intention has had a home on North Palm Avenue.

01 · A Passion That Started Early
Of Armenian descent, Chef Vatche first fell in love with cooking at twelve — not in a professional kitchen, but around a family table where food was its own language. That instinct for feeding people well never left him.
02 · Forged in Serious Kitchens
After training at the San Francisco Culinary Academy, Chef Vatche cut his teeth under Roger Morris at the Peppermill Casino, then rose to Sous Chef at Chukchansi Gold's Vintage steakhouse and Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite. Each kitchen deepened his command of fine dining.

03 · Coming Home
In 2006 he opened Cracked Pepper Bistro on North Palm Avenue — a chef's own room, built on scratch cooking and a wood fire. Nineteen years later the kitchen still runs the same way: everything made here, the long way.
Along the way came a win on Food Network's Guy's Grocery Games, a 2026 California Restaurant Association Chef of the Year nomination — and the regulars who matter more than either.
